Citrus japonica (Kumquat) is a small, slow-growing evergreen fruit tree prized for its oval, orange fruits that are eaten whole, skin and all. The fruit is sweet on the outside and tangy inside, ripening in winter to early spring. It thrives in full sun and prefers rich, well-drained soil, with regular deep watering, especially while fruiting. Compact in size (2-4m), it's excellent for containers, small gardens, or orchards. Kumquats are frost-tolerant compared to other citrus and produce fragrant white flowers in summer before setting fruit.
