Tibouchina elegans (Princess Flower) - 17cm

Tibouchina elegans is a striking, ornamental shrub or small tree prized for its vivid purple blooms and lush, tropical foliage. Native to Brazil, it typically grows to around 2–4 m in height and thrives in warm, frost-free climates. Its velvety, dark green leaves are oval-shaped and softly textured, creating a rich backdrop for the flowers.

From late summer into autumn, Tibouchina elegans produces large, vibrant purple to violet flowers with five broad petals, often attracting bees and butterflies. It prefers full sun to partial shade, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and regular watering during dry spells. In landscaping, it is commonly used as a focal point in gardens, along borders, or in large decorative containers, bringing a burst of colour and a touch of the tropics to outdoor spaces.
